Vegetarians and Toxins

Try as hard as we will there is no escaping the fact that we are surrounded by toxins and other contaminants on a daily basis.

Water, air, food, the essentials of life are full of them so what can be done to reduce the amount of toxins we intake?

Eat organic. Organic food is becoming more popular as people are becoming more health conscious, Eating organic food greatly reduces the toxins we consume in our food. Certainly in the UK there are now strict regulations as to what can and cannot be called organic

Eating organic food has always been popular among the vegetarian family.
Most vegetarians will know that organic food is food that is grown naturally without the aid of commercial fertilizers and chemicals like insecticides, herbicides, and anti-fungal substances.

Another advantages is that organic growers use only organic fertilizers and remedies for growing plants. This means these foods are more natural and unrefined and can greatly reduces the amount of toxins the body takes in

Let me briefly state the advantages of organic food:
• First of it carries considerably less toxins as it is grown without the aid of chemicals
• While taste is personal it is generally agreed that organic food is often better tasting
• Better for you - there are more nutrients in organic foods and Omega 3 is often found in organic eggs (if you use them). If you do use eggs then you’ll be happy to know that some organic eggs are produced from chickens that are fed on vegetarian feed. This will cut down trans fat and animal fat in the eggs. Ask at your food store.
• You’ll have more fibre in your food which will in turn will help your digestive system and allow your whole body to function better. My mother calls it staying regular J
• If you’ve put on a few pounds and want to get rid of it organic food will help greatly. Organic food, because of the absence of refinement, is more satisfying meaning you’ll naturally feel like eating less.
• Organic fruits and vegetables have more nutrition than commercially grown ones so you will be feeding your body with better food and improve your overall physical and mental health.
Organic foods are the way of the future as more people are becoming aware of their health and the important role food plays in maintaining a healthy body.

Unfortunately organic foods are still been sold at a premium over their non-organic counterparts. While it may be more costly by switching to organic food you will improve your health and wellbeing and you will also be able to boost your immune system and help your body fight off diseases and toxins.

One Response to “Vegetarians and Toxins”

  1. Right you are on all of these points!
There is a deeper meaning ehre also… the absence of extremely harmful pesticides and herbicides means there is less harm to the environment in general. The run-off of toxins from field to strema nd into the lakes can lead to a myriad of complications for the environment and downstream people.
Buying organic food is often going to be helping the small family farms who can attend to the micro management of their land and plants much better than a large corporate farm can.
Organics does not mean a reduction in yield per acre as is often promulgated by corporate farm backers, on the contrary, there are many examples of small farms with much higher yields per acre due to the highly complex interactions between plants and animals and humans… as well as the (generally) more intensive cultivation practices used.
